Can you easily identify your luggage? There is nothing more frustrating than standing at the airport baggage control when every second item that goes by looks like yours.
It can be worrying too when the remaining luggage gets low and you still haven’t retrieved yours.
You begin to wonder if someone else has walked off with your belongings!
And that is something that can quite easily happen as people are tired after long flights and they don’t always look as carefully as you might at the luggage they are collecting.
The way to avoid problems like that happening is to make sure that your luggage looks unique and is clearly identifiable.
Don’t rely on the small tags that the airline checkout places on your baggage. Add big colorful stickers that you can see from a distance. Put the stickers on all sides of your luggage so you can see them no matter what direction they are facing.
If you don’t want to put stickers on your luggage then add some colorful tags or ribbons of your own that you, and other people, will be able to see clearly.
Make sure you place locks on your luggage to deter thieves, as it is quite common for luggage handlers to sift through other peoples’ belongings to see what they can steal.
While the airlines don’t like to admit it, there is a lot of stolen luggage every year and you don’t want to make it any easier for them by not having locks on yours.
Thieves will always go for the easiest option because there is usually very little time for them to steal items, so bags with locks will be passed over for those that don’t have them.
Make sure you have the keys to your luggage with you so they don’t get lost.
Another benefit of having locks on your luggage is the ability to keep your clothes locked away while in your hotel room.
You would be surprised to know how many items of clothing go missing from hotel rooms that unsuspecting travelers don’t notice until they get home or decide to wear them.
It is unfortunate, but you really need to assume that you can’t trust too many people. It is the only way that you can keep your things safe.
