You can’t always trust people you meet in your travels, as you never know what motives they might have by giving you information.

Suggestions on what to do and where to go can be expensive when talking with locals and you can avoid being taken advantage of if you have sufficient information beforehand to compare with what you are hearing from the people at the places you are visiting.

This is not to say that you shouldn’t ask for advice from the locals but you should also have some knowledge to compare with what you are hearing.

Places of accommodation will often give you good advice but then again they will often be working with local businesses and recommend those who will help one another even where their price might not be the best if they can get some of benefit for their own business at your expense.

There are unscrupulous people in all places throughout the world waiting to exploit tourists and take advantage of their lack of knowledge by overpricing goods and services.

The more familiar you can become with the customs of the people and the way they operate the better prepared you will be to deal with them and in doing so save yourself a considerable amount of money.

Not only will you be able to save money but it will also help you to stay safe as it is common for people on holiday to ‘let their guard down’ and that is when they are more susceptible to danger.

Good planning prior to departure is your key to successfully having a great holiday where you will get the maximum benefits for the least expense.

Mistakes cost money and you will want to make as little of them as possible.

Even the timing of your holiday should be planned according to what is happening at the place you intend to visit as special events can result in surcharges being placed on accommodation to account for the extra demand and the lack of supply.

Unless you specifically want to take in such events you should try to avoid them to save money.
